What is a pillow made of silk and Tanboocell or bamboo carbon? What is the difference between bamboo carbon and bamboo fiber? Before explaining all of this in detail, let’s take a look at the properties of each material.
The Importance of a Pillow for Sleep
You might think it’s a curious idea to talk about sleep just a few days before spring—a time of year when nature awakens, life is teeming with activity, and energy is overflowing. But apparently, we spend a third of our lives sleeping. Since we spend, on average, one out of every three days of our lives sleeping, we might as well do it right—even in the spring!
So today’s blog post is dedicated to sleep—preferably restful sleep—with a focus on the importance of choosing the right pillow.
There’s a vast array of pillows in bedding stores and online shops, each touting the benefits of one filling or another. While natural materials have long been on the rise, some live up to their promises better than others. This is true of bamboo charcoal (or activated charcoal) and silk. But what exactly are they? Before we explain the benefits of a silk and bamboo pillow, let’s take a closer look at the properties of these two materials.
Bamboo Charcoal
It is actually bamboo that has been burned using a pyrolysis process to produce charcoal, which is then ground into a fine powder: bamboo charcoal.
This bamboo charcoal has been found to have a much higher porosity than any other plant-based charcoal. In fact, the structure of bamboo differs significantly from that of other plants.
This superior porosity results in a larger surface area of contact between the bamboo charcoal and the external environment. As a result, water molecules and water vapor are more likely to bind to the bamboo charcoal through chemical or electrostatic bonds, also known as Van der Waals forces.
And this is precisely why this material is so valuable in the manufacture of bedding. Once bound to the molecular structure of the polyester that makes up the filling of pillows and duvets, it significantly enhances their odor-neutralizing, purifying, and moisture-regulating properties.
And the health benefits of these duvets and pillows are numerous. See for yourself!
Moisture Absorption
The structure of bamboo charcoal consists of a multitude of micropores that regulate moisture levels. As a result, bamboo charcoal has a very high absorption capacity. It also helps create a healthy, pleasant atmosphere in the bedroom that is conducive to restful sleep.
Odor Neutralization and Pollutant Absorption
The carbon neutralizes unpleasant odors—such as cigarette smoke, body odor, and those sometimes caused by food or even medication.
Antibacterial Properties
The odor-absorption process works in tandem with humidity regulation. As a result, it stops the proliferation of bacteria, which are themselves a cause of allergies. Bedding made with bamboo charcoal is naturally “self-maintaining.”
Infrared Reflection and Negative Ion Release
Bedding made with bamboo charcoal has the unique ability to reflect the infrared rays emitted by the human body. As a result, it can help regulate blood flow in the skin’s capillaries. Bamboo carbon also releases negative ions that promote relaxation while you sleep.
And while the filling of our pillows consists of a carbon core, it is surrounded by long, grade-A silk fibers so you can enjoy the dual benefits of activated carbon and silk. This makes our silk and bamboo pillow even healthier!
Silk
The Origin of Silk
Stemming from ancestral know-how in the Middle Kingdom, mulberry silk is produced by silkworms of the Bombyx mori species. To produce its cocoon, the silkworm feeds exclusively on mulberry leaves. The larva of this moth, domesticated and selectively bred over generations, spins its cocoon from a fine yet highly durable, uniform, and naturally white thread.
It is above all these unmatched natural qualities that explain silk’s millennia-long success. Grade A is the highest quality of silk. It requires the selection of high-quality cocoons that unroll into a long, even thread.
Benefits of Silk
Silk helps maintain moisture in the skin and hair, which helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and keeps your hair shinier and smoother. Combining a soft feel, thermal comfort, and a very flattering satiny sheen, silk is naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial.
The care we take in filling our silk pillows would be meaningless without a high-quality cover. The cover is crafted from a beautiful 100% cotton jacquard with a tight weave of 120 threads per cm²—300 TC. This is where your head will rest, and the fact that it’s made of cotton is no coincidence either!
Why buy Maison de la soie’s silk and Tanboocell pillows?
These are nothing like run-of-the-mill bamboo viscose fiber pillows! Our silk and bamboo pillow offers exceptional benefits.
So let’s not be fooled by so-called bamboo pillows, where only the cover actually contains bamboo. What’s more, that cover isn’t even made of bamboo fibers. In fact, bamboo doesn’t exist as a textile fiber but only in the form of viscose. Furthermore, don’t trust these pillows either, as their filling consists solely of polyester straight out of a test tube!
To top it all off, our high-end pillows are priced the same as a bamboo viscose pillow. This makes them among the most affordable technical pillows available.
